NEWS BRIEF: LIBYAN PLANE CRASHES IN TUNISIA, KILLING 11

A medical flight from Libya crashed in a field near Tunis before dawn on Friday after an engine caught fire, killing all 11 Libyans on board, Tunisia’s civil defense agency
said.

According to Libyan security officials, the dead included Miftah Daoudi, a founder of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group that helped to overthrow Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi in 2011. Mr. Daoudi, who held a position in the Ministry of Martyrs and the Wounded in one of Libya’s transitional governments, had been traveling to Tunis for medical treatment when the plane crashed.

As part of the CEO transition at Microsoft, via which Satya Nadella is taking over as the company's third CEO effective immediately, one of Microsoft's current board members, John Thompson is simultaneously taking on the role of Microsoft board chairman.

Recently, Thompson replaced Gates as board chairman. Ex-CEO Steve Ballmer is staying on the board as well, a spokesperson confirmed.  But Gates' new title is "founder and technology advisor." FRED AJUDUA SENT TO KIRIKIRI PRISON FOR N1.3BILLION FRAUD

Fred Ajudua has been remanded in Kirikiri Prison for allegedly defrauding former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi (retd.), of about $8.395m (about N1.3 billion). NIGERIA FG FLAGGED-OFF OPEN DATA DEVELOPMENT INTIATIVE PROGRAMME

The Federal Government recently flagged-off an Open Data Development Initiative to support its objective of driving innovations, investments and economic growth by enabling access to government data.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Communication Technology which made this known explained that the initiative is a consultative and inclusive process that will open up high value data-sets from across government ministries to Nigerian citizens, businesses and the rest of the world, for free.

The commencement of this process, the statement added makes Nigeria the world’s first Federal Open Data initiative to simultaneously launch inclusive and continuing consultations with both government and non-government communities on their Open Data priorities to develop the country’s national Open Data implementation plan.

The state further read that: “The Nigeria Federal Open Data Initiative, supported by the World Bank and
help desk software
