18 Kirikiri inmates set free by Lagos State Chief Judge

18 inmates of Kirikiri Medium Security Custodial Centre were on Tuesday June 30, granted freedom by Lagos Chief Judge Kazeem Alogba.

100% electricity tariff hike put on hold as Lawan and Gbajabiamila intervene

The 100% hike in electricity tariff slated to commence Wednesday, July 1, has been put on hold.

This comes after the National Assembly leadership’s intervention at a meeting with the Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos), the National Electricity Regulatory Agency (NERC) and others in the power chain, Monday night, June 29.

The DisCos announced over the weekend that the tariff  pushed forward from April 1 would take effect from July 1.

Customers protested the planned increase but the DisCos insisted that only a “cost-reflective”

How I was almost kidnapped in Lagos State - Nigerian Lady recounts

A Nigerian lady has recounted how she was almost kidnapped as she was about boarding a tricycle at Jakande Estate in Isolo, Lagos. 

According to @Chioma_Ajebota, some men who approached her, accused her of "flying their colour" amid a cult war they claimed was ongoing in the area. She said she realized they wanted to kidnap when they tried forcing her into a tricycle, which was when she ran for her life.

NBA calls out comedian Lasisi for 'misrepresenting' lawyers in his skits; threaten to take action against him

A representative of the Nigerian Bar Association has called out comedian Lasisi for 'misrepresenting' lawyers in his skits.

Habeeb Lawal, the Assistant National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, took to Twitter to react to one of Lasisi's comedy videos.

In the skit, Lasisi dressed like a lawyer and also played the part of one.

Reacting, Habeeb Lawal wrote: "Dear @lasisielenu, We've been tagged! We beg to use you as a point of reference to all other comedians. Lawyers have awesome sense of humour, as such we enjoy your jokes & appreciate the creativity. However, if you must represent our profession in your works.

"kindly ensure you properly adorn the wig, bip & gown. We acknowledge your right of expression, but NOTE that we also reserve the rights to take all NECESSARY steps to guide against the ridicule of our noble profession and @NigBarAssoc shall not hesitate to exercise those rights."

"In the likely event that you need a guide on how to make a joke about lawyers without ridiculing our appearance, here is a good guide."

Lawal added a video to guide Lasisi and other comedians on the proper way to represent lawyers in their skits.

Four ex-Minneapolis Police officers charged in George Floyd's killing to appear in court today

The ex-Minneapolis Police officer charged with killing George Floyd and the three others accused of aiding and abetting in his death are expected to appear in court later today. 

Derek Chauvin, who is charged with second-degree murder in Floyd's death on May 25, will appear remotely via video.

A Nigerian Twitter user has accused some police officers of planting weed in his car, leaving him with a swollen face and extorting him of N40k in Aguda area of Lagos state.

Black Monday as terrorists killed at least 9 people in Pakistan Stock Exchange

At least 9 people are reportedly dead after armed terrorists stormed the Pakistan stock exchange building in Karachi on Monday morning, June 29.

At least four attackers pulled up outside the building in Karachi in a car before opening fire and hurling grenades.

A police sub-inspector and four security guards were killed. In the ensuing exchange of fire, all the four terrorists were also killed.
